Male defeats Eastern High in the Derek Smith Shootout held @ Louisville's Hoops facilities. Although my local team Jeffersonville did make it to the final four before a disappointing loss, I was pleased in knowing they did bury Lexington Catholic by 29 points.

In my opinion, the two top teams in the Seventh for next season. Followed closely by J'Town, Manual, Seneca and Ballard.

I said Male and Eastern on this exact board two months ago. The Seventh Region will be crowded at the top as it has been the last couple of years, but the fact remains, Manual has to prove it during the season. It's been a long time since Manual has gone to state. Trust me, as a former Crimson (2001), there's no one I would rather see going to Rupp, but I need them to prove it to me during the season. Now, I wouldn't be surprised to see J'Town make a run, they certainly have the talent to do so, I'm just going with Eastern (last year's runner-up) and Male, who I say is the most talented team. Take that for what it's worth.

They do have two nice (yet undersized guards) that are quick, but streaky as perimeter players. Ballard, Eastern, Manual, all have more talent than the Bulldogs this year. What Male does have is size even after the loss of Heyman to graduation. Jeffersontown returns four starters. They are the favorites with the addition of Cosby. Manual, which won the LIT (beating 3 top 10 teams in a row including Eastern) and placed 3rd in the KOB has the top-heavy talent in two will-be D1 players (Jenkins and Kimbro). Manual needs depth to be at the top however. Eastern has talent in the form of youth and they have depth, but zero perimeter scorers which will be offset by their athletes ability to rebound and play defense. The order will be J'Town, Manual, Eastern, Ballard, and Male. The wildcard team will be Seneca. They have a sound starting five. If the Redhawks add depth, they could potentially make a run. And this is going by seeing a 100 games at Ballard, Manual, New Albany, and multiple tournaments and shootouts. Take that for what its worth.

But don't act like you are going out on a limb to pick J'Town. I said I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run, they have the talent, especially with the addition of Cosby, to do so. As I stated earlier, Male, Eastern, J'Town and Manual will all be right there. I said Seneca was a sleeper team. You arent' saying anything I haven't said. I'm just going with Male and Eastern as opposed to J'Town.
